Go Orange Milford Sound

A post shared by Eagle Creek (@eaglecreek) on

Take on the Shotover Canyon Swing if you dare. Found only a 15 minute drive from Queenstown centre it is the world’s highest cliff jump, not for the faint hearted. The Canyon Swing is one of the most adventurous things you’ll do in this adrenaline-filled place.

Leap off a 109 meter high cliff, fall for 60 meters then swing an incredible 200 meters over the Shotover Canyon, this is an absolute rush! How you jump is up to you, whether you want to go for the usual swan dive, jump backwards or even try a flip. This one is not to be missed.

If a zipline is more your thing then have a go at the Canyon Fox, the ultimate zipline in New Zealand. You start 182m high, get launched off the cliff on a rail into a 5m drop and ziplining across the legendary Shotover Canyon and back again for a total of 445m on this crazy Queenstown zipline.

Shotover Jet

While on the topic of Shotover Canyon I can’t forget to mention the immense Shotover Jet, referred to as “the world’s most exciting jet boat ride”.

You speed over water as shallow as 10cm, experiencing 360-degree spins along the famous Shotover River and deep into the Shotover Canyons. These boats go super quick, reaching up to 90kmh’s! As the Canyon walls tower over you, your driver puts the boat through its paces, riding the rapids and performing white knuckle stunts within touching distance of the awe-inspiring cliff faces.

It’s pretty much the most intense roller coaster you’ve ever been on but on the water with incredible larger than life cliff faces either side of you.

Go Orange Rafting

This isn’t just rafting, this is Queenstown rafting, and it’s totally different. Not only are you embarking on a man vs nature battle of willpower, you’re also doing it in one of the most scenic environments in the world. Go where the jet boats don’t dare to go as you hurtle down Shotover River over grade 3 – 5 rapids. You won’t maybe get wet, you’ll definitely get wet.

Even the bus ride there is awesome, travelling through the absolutely epic Skippers Canyon, getting the blood pumping before you even hit the water. Like I said earlier, Queenstown is an adrenaline junkies playground and this is the big toy of big toys.

Nevis Bungy and Swing

Now if there’s an activity that seems to be at the top of EVERYONE’S bucket list, I think it would have to bungy jumping. There’s something about throwing yourself off a ridiculously high ledge hurtling yourself towards the ground that just seems to get the people going! And what better place to tick it off your bucket list than the birthplace of commercial bungy jumps, Queenstown!

The Nevis Bungy is the highest bungy jump in all of NZ at a whopping 134meters. This amounts to an 8.5 second free fall which will definitely put some hairs on your chest.

If you want to relive that feeling of the first time you ever went on a swing when you were just a baby then have a go on the biggest swing for adults ever made, the Nevis Swing.

It’s big, it’s bad and it’s loud (when you consider the screams of everyone who’s had a go). Swing by yourself or tandem with a friend – forwards, backwards, upside down, it’s your choice. You’ll complete the 300m over absolutely breathtaking views, this is one to remember.

I know what you’re thinking… “i’ve always loved the idea of throwing myself out of a perfectly good plane”. Right?? Well make those thoughts a reality and try a tandem skydive over New Zealand’s playground, Queenstown!

Not only do you free fall for a whole 60 seconds (trust me it feels a lot longer than it sounds), but you fall at what’s called terminal velocity. This is pretty much a fancy name for the fastest your body can travel without being fired from a cannon. That’s 200kmh’s. Not bhed ey? Your flight to altitude will take you high above the Wakatipu basin, where you will have a birds eye view of the dramatic mountains and lakes. This jump is about as picturesque as it gets.

Although throwing yourself out of a plane is very good fun and all, sometimes it is nice to just sit back, relax and take in the views. And what better views to take in than a birds eye view of The Remarkables mountains and the immaculate Lake Wakatipu? Don’t forget to bring your camera as this is a view you won’t forget anytime soon.
